A singing retreat Exploring and expanding the knowledge of our voice2026 In an incredible atmosphere In a unique context as the Fort of São João Baptista in the Berlengas Islands, we propose you a unique andspecial singing retreat, conducted by Nina Pedersen, after having done 7 seasons in Italy, we have found the perfect place in Portugal to replicate this wonderful retreat.
After the amazing experience we had last year, here we go with the second edition of Berlenga’s Singing Retreat. Over 3 days and 2 nights, we will take part in specialized classes designed to improve our singing techniques. We will explore different musical genres, exchange methods and experiences, and above all, share what unites us all: MUSIC.
The Fort of São João Baptistahas an impressive history dating back to 17th century,
The fort was constructed from the remains of a pre- existing monastery (the Monastery of the Misericórdia da Berlenga), which had previously been abandoned, having been the scene of battles and pirate attacks.
Today it is a small lodge with very few beds, very simple, where luxury is not the star, but sleeping in the middle of this cultural heritage island, under those unique starry skies and around turquoise waters, makes the whole experience simply WONDERFUL.
Our singing voice is a unique instrument with unique possibilities.It tells us who we are, what we are, and where we are in our lifes.
With the singing voice as a means of communication, we can reach where the speaking voice cannot. As H.C. Andersen said:"Where words fail, music speaks"Singing is more than singing, and the list of elements that are set in motion every time we sing, is long.
At our “VocalJazzLab” we'll train our ears and our sense of rhythm, we'll improve our technical skills and learn how to give the correct support to our voices.
We'll also have a deep dive into the lyrics and how to interpret them and express ourselves through dynamics, melodic variations, improvisation and sound.
Don't let the word "Jazz" scare you away!
We use this musical expression as a starting point, a method. It doesn't necessarily have to be a goal in itself.Jazz as a form of expression has a huge variety of components, it embraces all aspects of music, and it offers a handy and well-equipped toolbox for use in any other musical genre or style.The “VocalJazzLab” is the place for those who want to learn more about their own voices, understand it better and improve it, whether singing in a choir, in a band, or in the shower.
Maybe no one has ever heard your singing voice, or perhaps you have sung a lot, but are in need of some inspiration and inputs on how to move forward.The “VocalJazzLab” meets you where you are.
We work both in groups and individually, and all levels are welcome!

Day 1
Arrival to the island around lunch-time we will take a boat at Peniche Marina’s
preferably early morning, time to be confirmed.

You can arrive with your own vehicle and leave it in Peniche, or share an Uber from Lisbon with other participants (we can put you in contact with) or take a bus from Rodoviaria do Oeste in Campo Grande that leaves you few blocks from the marina.
